5 Signs Your Logo Needs a Redesign

Published on 2026-08-05

Your logo doesn't need to change because you're bored of it. Here are the actual signals that it's holding your business back.

A redesign is expensive — in time, in money, in the risk of confusing existing customers. So it's worth being honest about when a logo actually needs to change, versus when you're just tired of looking at it every day.

The real signals: it doesn't work at small sizes (favicon, app icon), it was designed for a business you've since outgrown, it looks dated in a way that undermines trust, competitors in your space have visibly modernized, or it simply doesn't hold up next to the rest of your visual identity anymore.

If none of those apply, the fix is usually smaller than a full redesign — a refined color palette, better typography pairing, or tighter usage guidelines can solve the real problem without starting from zero.
